3. Lucifer God's Purpose for Man

Chapter 3
Lucifer

Lucifer's Description

Lucifer once was an archangel, one of God’s top angels. He was an anointed cherub holding a very important leading position in heaven (Ezek 28:14).  Out of trillions of angels, Lucifer was one of the few angels who could come upon the mountain of God and spend time in His presence.

  • He was full of wisdom and beauty (Ezek 28:12).
  • He was musical; music was built right in him, in his sockets (Ezek 28:13).  He was probably the leader of worship in heaven.
  • He was perfect in all his ways (until the fall) (Ezek 28:15)
  • He was blameless (until the fall) (Ezek 28:15)
  • He had sanctuaries, as he was a priest (Ezek 28:18).
  • He was a king.
  • As an angelic spirit, he is eternal, meaning he will live forever.

Lucifer's Position

God gave Lucifer rulership in heaven. From the onset, God built beautiful music within him, and he was probably the leader of worship in heaven.  His outer being was covered with precious gems (Ezek 28:13).  Scripture tells us that Lucifer was once blameless and perfect in his ways, full of wisdom and beauty (Ezek 28:12, Ezek 28:15).  Lucifer was a king and a priest, having many sanctuaries (Ezek 28:18).  He had it within his power, at will, to spend time in the presence of God.

Lucifer's Downfall

It was brought forth in the last chapter that all of God’s angels were given a free will to chose or rebel against God.  Lucifer chose to rebel, taking on the sin of pride, choosing to disobey God. As pride set in, he chose to war against God, desiring to be His superior. He desired to take over God’s place on His throne and rule over all of God's creation (Ezek 28:11-15).  As such, Lucifer convinced one-third of the angelic hosts that they could win the battle over God for the heavenly throne; thus, a war began in the third heaven (Isa 14:12-14).

War in Heaven

Heaven was severed with two forces at war. At God’s command, the Archangel Michael, along with the angels who followed God, which were two-thirds of all the angelic beings, warred with Lucifer and his following angels. Michael and God’s angels cast Lucifer and his angels out of the third heaven (Rev 12:4; Rev 12:9; Luke 10:18).

Lucifer's Destruction

Lucifer lost his leadership position under God. Lucifer, now renamed Satan, and his angelic demonic followers were cast out of heaven to roam the heavelies.  Upon being cast out of heaven, God stripped Lucifer of his name, and he became known as Satan or the devil. His nature changed, and he became a being of evil. He became known as a thief and a killer, and is spoken of in the Word of God as an adversary, Beelzebub, serpent, prince of the power of the air, the evil one, and dragon, just to name a few. All of these evil names became characteristic of Satan's nature.

As evil spirit beings, Satan and his angels spiritual hosts now roam in the first and second heaven, meaning the earth and the earth's atmosphere. Their mission is to fight God's holy angels to stop God's plan from going forth upon the earth.  As spirits, they will live on forever, but God will deal with them later on as we will see in this book.
