Isaiah 2:12
The Day of the Lord
Isaiah 2:12 For the “Day of the Lord” of hosts shall come upon everything proud and lofty, upon everything lifted up-and it shall be brought low.
The term “Day of the Lord” is used more than 100 times throughout Scripture. It does not necessarily refer to one specific day or even one time. It speaks of “God’s time” when God takes over.
We have been in the "Day of Man" since the fall of Adam 6000 years ago. That means God gave man authority and control over the earth - to take dominion over the land, the sea, and everything that moves upon the earth. Man, however, relinquished that power and authority and gave it to Satan who has been steering mankind in his favor for over six millenniums so he could rule the world.
The Day of Man, however, is limited and throughout Scripture we have seen God use His power over man and Satan to pour out His judgment upon the earth from time to time as a "Day of the Lord" overtook mankind and the earth.
- We have seen the "Day of the Lord" happen throughout the Old Testament when God caused a worldwide flood to come upon the earth because man rejected God.
- We have seen the "Day of the Lord" happen when Israel and mankind kept rejecting God and going after other gods. As such, God intervened and judgment came upon God's people and the land of Israel.
- We have seen the "Day of the Lord" happen when Judah and God's people kept rejecting God and falling for other gods. As such, God again intervened and judgment came upon God's people and the land of Judah. The land remained dormant for a number of years.
- We have seen the "Day of the Lord" happen when Jesus came down to earth as a man to show Himself as Savior of the world. His very own people rejected Him, and as such, God's people, the Jews, have been under judgment ever since and the land of Israel remained dormant for almost 1900 years.
- We have seen where the world has rejected Jesus, having only a remnant of believers and followers. As such, the "Day of the Lord" - God's judgment is about to come down upon the whole earth, which will include all mankind, the land and the seas for seven long years (Rom 2:9).
The "Day of the Lord" is coming very soon in our near future when one day, Jesus the Messiah will end the “Day of Man” by first gloriously gathering His believers up to heaven in the Rapture of the Church to escape the wrath to come upon the earth, which will then begin the “Day of the Lord.” (1 Thess 1:10)

At that point, God will take over the earth in judgment for seven long years of tribulation as He pours out His judgment upon the earth - the land, the cities, the seas, the ships upon the waters to where all mankind left upon the earth will experience God's judgment.
The Glory of His Majesty
God's judgment will end at the 2nd coming of Christ back to earth after seven years of judgment at the Battle of Armageddon as the glory of Christ's majesty is shown to the whole earth. It will be so powerful where all mankind will see the power of God come to earth. In this one day battle Jesus will conquer over the earth and will bind Satan into the Bottomless Pit deep down in the caverns of the earth.
The "Day of the Lord" will gloriously continue on for the next 1000 years (the Millennium) while God turns the earth around to be a time of deliverance and blessing for Israel and a time of rewards for the Body of Christ. The whole earth will become one government under Christ, and as such, His Kingdom will reign upon the earth for the next 1000 years.
The "Day of the Lord" will end temporarily when the Bottomless Pit is opened up and Satan will roam the earth looking for anyone who will join Him against Christ. As such, Satan will gather as many people as the sands of the sea in this "Day of Man." That time, however, will be very temporary because God will intervene when His Day will come upon the earth again to judge those who turned against Christ. Their judgment in that "Day of the Lord" will be the Eternal Lake of Fire as they join Satan and his angels to suffer for all eternity.
Those who remained faithful to Christ will continue on into eternity to enjoy God's presence forever. That should be a sign for us Christians today. Remain faithful and enjoy God's presence through the power of the Holy Spirit each day as we gloriously enjoy Him day in and day out. Remember, God so loves you and wants you to enjoy His presence everyday.
