March 7 - Genesis 1:26

March 7
Genesis 1:26

Genesis 1:26 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.

With His mouth the Godhead (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) created mankind in His image. God is a spirit, meaning an eternal being, having a soul, meaning His own unique personality, and we were created just like Him. As a created being just like Him, being an eternal soul, He then formed a body around our eternal spirit/soul out of the dirt of the ground. Lovingly He then gave His beautiful creation of mankind dominion over earth, which included the fish, birds, cattle, and all that creeps on the ground - and that included the serpent (deguised as Satan) who beguiled them into giving up their dominion, handing it over to him.

While the punishment of disobeying God brought death to their physical body, their spirit/soul still lives on forever. While we live under the earth that has been cursed and handed over to Satan, that didn't relinquish God's gift to mankind of having dominion over the earth and all that is in it.

In Christ, believers have been given back that dominion; however, most Christians have no idea what that means. Mankind recognizes that he carries dominion over animals, birds, fish and creeping reptiles, and often abuses that authority; however, they have forgotten that Satan came as a serpent, and as such, we have authority over Him. Christians, however, fail to recognize their dominion over him.

I am reminded of a vision God gave me several years ago. I was in heaven sitting at Jesus' right hand on the throne of God. I looked over at God sitting next to Jesus. His glory was stark white and glowed where I could not recognize any part of Him. I looked at Jesus. His face glowed a pure gold; however, I could see His robe, arms, hands, and feet. Then Jesus suddently took His left hand and pointed down at my feet where I saw my feet resting on a footstool with Satan underneath, bobbing away like a bobblehead. Then Jesus said very sternly to me "see, I have given you authority."

I haved never forgotten that vision from Jesus. Yes, I do have authority/dominion over Satan. He is under my feet. He has no power over me. I have overcome the evil one because He lives in me!

Let's use that authority over Satan because he is a defeated foe and we have dominion over him.

1 John 2:13-14 I am writing to you...the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.
