March 20 - Colossians 2:9--10

Colossians 2:9-10

Colossians 2:9-10 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.

In the midst of cultic beliefs entering into the Church, the Apostle Paul declared Jesus as full Deity - Supreme over all mankind and spirit beings, including demonic powers.  As Almighty God, having the indwelling Holy Spirit, Jesus came down to earth in human form.  Loving His creation, Jesus representing the Godhead, left His diety to become fully human, yet without sin, meaning He did not take on the sin nature man because there is no sin in God. In every other way, however, Jesus chose to experience all human emotions, pain, suffering and death to pay the penalty for our sins. Even in His humanity, however, He still maintained all authority over every demonic power.

As believers in Christ, we are united in and with Jesus. When Jesus ascended back to heaven to sit at the right hand of God on His heavenly throne, He gave us a part of Himself by sending His Spirit to dwell within us. As such, we became His body here on earth.  As His body, we have been made complete in Him. As such, we carrying that same authority that Jesus, as a human had when He walked the earth. That means we have authority over all demonic spirits in the same way Jesus did.

Do we understand the power of God dwelling within us? Do we understand our authority that we have in Christ? Certainly not to the fullness that God wants us to understand.

The Apostle Paul knew that the Church lacked understanding of the full power of God that we have in Christ Jesus. In this same book he wrote out a prayer praying that believers would be filled with the knowledge of God's will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. (Col 1:9). This is a prayer that we can pray over each other. This is my prayer for you!
