March 19 - Acts 2:42

March 19, 2024
Acts 2:42

Acts 2:42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.

The apostles of Jesus set a parameter for Christians on how to gather together to worship. They gathered together regularly, often daily, under many adverse conditions - persecution from family, persecution from their synagogue, persecution from pagan Gentile, as well as Roman authorities that surrounded them everyday.  In other words, they were persecuted by just about everyone around them.  The more they were persecuted, the more they gathered together. In its earliest conception, before church buildings were erected, the Church gathered together in various homes to:

  1. Fellowship with one another, supporting and encouraging them in their faith,
  2. Have communion as a body of believers together, remembering all that Jesus has done for them,
  3. Learn more of the Word of God so they could grow in their faith,
  4. And pray together as a body of believers, standing in agreement for the needs of  each other, as well as the Church.

This shows the importance of believers needing to gather together regularly as a Church to encourage one another and grow in their faith. The Apostle Paul (or the writer of the Book of Hebrews) re-enforced this same importance of gathering together as a Church body in Hebrews 10:25...not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

As we live in these end times, we are seeing the Day approaching fast upon us. This is even more reason why we need the encouragement of other believers around us. We all need to be part of a body of believers meeting regularly to remain strong in our faith, purposing to grow deeper in the Word of God. We simply need each other.

If you are not part of a body of believers, please find a Bible-believing, Bible-practicing, and Bible-living Church where you can hook up with other believers. Get involved, let your Church be your support for whatever you may be facing in life to help you remain strong in your faith.
