Matthew 6:3

Matthew 6:3 But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.
This verse teaches us how Jesus wants us to give. When the Holy Spirit promts us what to give and who to give it to, we need to do it right away before we think twice about it. You see, if we wait, we will ignore the prompting of the Holy Spirit, find excuses not to give, or simply forget all about it. So, this metaphore of not letting the right hand know what your left hand is doing, is a reminder to do right away.

The next verse tells us how to give. Jesus wants our giving to be done in secret, unlike the Pharisees who sounded trumpets so everyone knew who, what, when, and why they gave so they could receive the praises of people. In that, they already had their reward.
Matt 6:4 that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.
When we are prompted by the Holy Spirit to give, do it quickly and quietly. That way only God sees and He will reward you openly with His blessings, which far exceed the praises of man.
