Psalm 91:7-8

Dear Christian friend,

Psalm 91:7-8 A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you. 8 Only with your eyes shall you look, And see the reward of the wicked.

This whole chapter is about God protecting His flock like a bird watches over and protects her chicks. Spiritual warfare and physical attacks are part of life, and certainly part of the Christian walk. This verse, supported by the previous verses in this chapters are meant to help us understand how God provides protection and deliverance from the attacks of the enemy.

Because Satan and his minions camp round about us looking to attack at any given moment, that gives us all the more reason to stay within our secret place in God where we are protected from any sneak attacks of the enemy. Once we get it into our heart strong that when we dwell and stay in God's secret place of protection, we have nothing to fear, knowing we are safe, no matter what we see happening to others around us. It's when people - believers and unbelievers alike - are either unaware or rebellious towards God and His umbrella of protection, and it will simply be a matter of time when Satan, who is always on the lookout seeks to devour as he pleases. 

Every night when I pray the 91st Psalm and I come to these two verses, I'm reminded of the evils of this world and how Satan has gotten such a grip over our leaders in our society. As our society keeps getting more evil, those in power smugly continue on in power.  I many times have cried out to the Lord reminding Him of His promise that with our eyes we will see the recompense (just punishment) of the wicked, saying "how long Lord before we see that happen?" The wicked in power keep getting away with their sins - when will we see their just recompensate?  

While God is fully aware of everything that is going on in our society, not allowing anything to happen that will thwart His plans for us as individuals as well as His overall plan for the earth, the Lord reminded me that Satan also has his agenda by trying to keep the evil in power to further his plans in individuals as well as the earth.  A day will come, however, when, in God's timing, we WILL see the recompense of the wicked.  God is the One Who sees the big picture and will not allow anything to happen out of His will for you and the earth.

What God is promising us here is that as long as we stay protected under His wings, we will continuously see people, without number, falling all around us to where you look at one side and a thousand are falling, and you turn to the other side and ten thousand are falling.  Some will fall soon and some will fall later - all in God's timing. What God is promising us here is when we purpose to stay under the protection of his wings in our secret place, He will protect us even while Satan is running wild all around us. 

When we see this happen, this is when we say thank you Lord for your divine protection. This is also a time when our hearts weap for those consumed in the grips of Satan because of their ignorance or rebellion which brings us to our knees to pray for them.

2 Chronicles 7:14  if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
