Psalm 91:5-6
Dear Christian friends,
Psalm 91:5-6 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night nor of the arrow that flies by day, Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.
As we continue on with our Daily Devotions in the 91st Psalm, we have seen the Lord watches over and protects us like a mother bird watches over and guards her little chicks. We are God's little chicks!
Things always seems worse at night and the enemy delights in taking advantage of those times when we are more vulnerable to the threats that give us fear at night. In other words, we are more spiritually attuned at night - both with God or with Satan. Nighttime is when fear can be intensified, and as the devil roams around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour he looks for those who have left themselves unprotected. As such, we need to be especially spiritually protected at night. That is why my husband and I pray the 91st Psalm over us and our whole family every night before we go to bed.
Nighttime is often when sudden attacks come. It could be a the attack of a pestilence - something contagious or infectious or even a certain disease. Nighttime is also when fear wants to grip us over situations that have happened and we were spared or for fear that something could happen. Even in the day, Satan keeps on the lookout for anyone who is vulnerable to any attack he may want to give us - remember, he roams around seeking whom he may devour and he looks for the vulnerable.
We then can make the choice to 24/7 dwell in our secret place in God by trusting that He is taking care of us, putting ourselves under His protection whether it is day or night -whether an attack comes upon us in secret or when he attacks out in the open. Great security is promised to us as believers in the midst of dangerwhen we put ourselves under His care. Wisdom then is purposing to trust God and His Word in that He is taking care of us as long as we keep dwelling in our secret place in Him.
As was brought out in our last Daily Devotions on Psalm 91:3-4, we can not only go to a physical place of peace and safety to be with God, we can also abide under His protection continuously. So then, how do we know whether we are in or out of our secret place? As believers in Christ, having the indwelling Holy Spirit and our Bibles to lead and guide us, our hearts tell us whether we have violated God's Word in any way. Have we sinned? If so, then confess it as sin and ask God's help and guidance to stay away from that sin. Ask yourself - are you leading a righteous life in God? Your heart knows - for if you don't, you lack peace in your heart, and fear becomes your driving force. As such, you have given in to the devil by allowing him to take control over your life. You give him an inch, he will take a mile and run with it.
The antidote for fear is faith. Another word for faith is believe and trust. I am reminded of as familiar verse in Proverbs that we need to keep reminding ourselves of. Proverbs 3:3-5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.
Have a blessed day in the Lord,
