Psalm 14-16
Psalm 91:14-16 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. 15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. 16 With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.”
Dear Christian friend,
All of chapter 91 of Psalm has been spoken to us by the psalmist (Moses), giving forth God's promises to those who purpose to dwell in the secret place in God, hiding under the shadow of the Almighty. That is a conscious choice to trust and obey God in all circumstances because Satan is always on the prowl seeking whom he can devour. Throughout life, there are always challenges that come our way that want to rob us of our relationship with God. Those then who place themselves under the shadow of God's loving and personal protection, they have learned that if it wasn't for God's protection on their life, their journey could have taken a different turn or even cut short by the schemes and deceptions of the enemy Satan.
Beginning in this next verse (verse 14) , the narrator changes to the first person of God. Here God is responding back to His children - to those who have been faithful to Him by loving and acting in ways that express that love toward Him. God now speaks a blessing over them with the promise that He will rescue them, setting them on high - above their circumstances, out of harms way - all because they have known His name. These are the faithful who have genuinely come to know God personally. They have seen and experienced God's love and protection as they have walked throughout life.
When the faithful call upon Him, the Lord says "I will answer." God hears the cry of our heart. God hears our prayers, and we can be certain that God answers our prayers in ways that fit in with His plan and purpose and for our benefit. God foresees everything and how He responds to our prayers will always fit in to His plans and work our for our good. Then He finishes out by promising that for those who walk in faith, He gives a long and satisfied life. We can take from this that following in God’s ways will leads to a longer life on this earth, but more importantly, will lead to a life that is full of satisfaction.
God, as our creator, knows our design better than we do. We find our greatest fulfillment in life is when we do what God has designed us to do. And therefore, it makes logical sense that trusting Him completely is for our best. The more we get to know Him, the more we trust, and the more we trust, they more we choose to obey.
When all is said and done - when we are faithful to God, He is faithful to us. Be rest assured that these promises rise from the core of God’s character - which is love. Our security then and our deliverance are the hallmark of God's eternal character. Those who wholeheartedly follow Him may then rest confidently, securely in His promises because God always keeps His never-failing word - now and forevermore. Amen.
Blessings
