Psalm 119:105 Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

Our Bible is God talking and guiding us with His wisdom of how to live our lives. King David said that he loved the Law (Word of God) and it was his meditation all the day long. He learned through God’s Word to love righteousness and hate evil. As such, God Word gave guidance to him to keep God’s righteousness and stay away from all forms of evil.

In the same way, you, as a New Covenant believer, has the huge advantage, unlike King David, to have the indwelling Holy Spirit living within you to give you even greater revelation on what God is saying to you through His Word. The Holy Spirit then is like your road map or GPS system giving you light as to which path to follow. While there are many wide paths in life to follow, as you continually read and meditate on God’s Word, that light gets brighter and brighter as you walk that narrow path that leads you to the glorious light of your destination in God.  

If you somehow drift off of God’s path for you, wandering off on those larger paths more frequently traveled, the light of God and His Word gets dimmer and dimmer. In time, you will be lost and you will simply follow the crowd as to some sort of direction in life to follow. The remedy – stop, repent and let the light of God’s promises lead you back to the path on which God has designed for you to travel. You see, the more you meditate on God’s Word, the greater God’s light shines as it gets brighter and brighter – like a flood light to guide your way. Those wide paths then will simply become dim to where you won’t even see or desire to travel on them.

God wants every believer to grow deeper in the things of Him. None of us have reached the pinnacle of God’s wisdom and guidance for our life. As such, we all need to continually grow deeper in God so that His wisdom becomes our wisdom as the light of His Word shines brighter in us and to the world.

I find the best way to get God’s Word down deep into my heart is by memorizing what God is showing me. Because faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God, memorization is repetitively saying out loud so you can hear over and over again what God is saying to you. Do that until it goes deep into your heart and becomes a part of your belief system.

PRAYER:  Jesus, I desire to stay on Your narrow path and let Your light guide my way. Help me to get the Word of God down deep into me to where I love Your Word, love Your righteousness, and hate evil.
