Hebrews 1:1-2

Hebrews 1:1-2 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;

There are different ways in which God spoke throughout the Old Testament, but it was always God Who spoke. He then used the personalities and minds of the prophets, as they were totally controlled by the Spirit of God. Every word they said was what God decided they should say. Some of the Old Testament is history, some is poetry, some is law, and some is prophecy. God spoke through it all. 

The Old Testament was written over a period of fifteen hundred years by more than forty writers. As such, the Old Testament has been a progressive revelation.  It was fragmentary and incomplete with each book having its own element of truth. To enforce each truth, God gave laws as a teacher of how God wanted to relate to His people. Each book builds on the one before.

The Old Testament was revealed in pieces.

• To Abraham was revealed the nation of the Messiah;
• To Jacob, the tribe of the Messiah;
• To David and Isaiah, the family of the Messiah;
• To Micah, the town where He would be born;
• To Daniel, the time when He would be born;
• To Malachi, the forerunner who would precede Him.
• To Jonah His resurrection was typified.

Every one of those pieces came together in Jesus Christ. Everything is complete in Him.

Col 2:9-10 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.

God’s Word to His people remained incomplete until the New Testament with the coming of Jesus as the Messiah and Savior of the world. The standards of morality established in the Old Testament were then totally complete in Jesus.

these last times for you

The Superiority of Jesus

 In these last days – meaning the Age of the Messiah, which is the last period in time, Jesus spoke to His disciples who, under the inspiration of His Holy Spirit, passed His words down to those who would come to believe and follow Him. Jesus is far more that the best of prophets under the Old Covenant, revealing things that none of the prophets could. Not only did Jesus bring a message from God, Jesus IS a message from God.

Jesus left us His Holy Spirit to speak to the hearts of His believers. As such, God still speaks today under the New Covenant, but through His Son Jesus whom God appointed heir of all things. Heir meaning that Jesus holds preeminence over all things. All that we are, and everything we have, is all because of Christ Jesus and what He had done for us.

Jesus is supreme over all!
