John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

In the dateless past of eternity, the "Word" was with God, yet the "Word" was God. The "Word" was already there, existing before creation and time. Genesis 1:1 tells us that in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The "Word" was with God and the "Word" was and is God - with meaning two separate entities. This makes the point that the Father is distinct from the Son, and the Son distinct from the Father. They are both equally God, yet they are separate Persons. This very thought can be hard to grasp, yet God wants us to get a hold of this truth.

The "Word" left heaven to become a human being, making His home among us here on earth. The "Word's" name is Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God Who came to love and have fellowship with mankind. As the agent of God's love toward us, Jesus shows us how to love God and others, asking us to become like Him. Jesus went so far as to die on the cross for our sins and God rose Him from the dead. Because God rose Him from the dead, we can can have our sins forgiven and have eternal life with God forever.

We now have God's written Word - our Bibles to show us how to love and follow after Him. God wants us to have communion with Him and for us to become like Jesus. We do that by having faith in God's Word - believing Who Jesus is and what He had done for us. We then choose to yield ourselves over to Christ in submission by asking Him to take over our lives to make those changes so that we can become like Jesus. When we do, we then become a Christian - a follower of Christ - a member of the heavenly Kingdom of God. 

If you are ready to make that change in your life, say this prayer to God:

Dear Father in heaven,

I believe in Jesus as Your Son. I believe He died on the cross for my sins, and because you raised Him from the dead, I too can be raised unto eternal life. I yield my life over to you and ask that You make those changes within me.
