Psalm 1:1-2

Psalm 1:1-2 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; ² But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.

The Hebrew meaning for the word blessed is happy or happiness. So then, do you want happiness in your life? God specifically tells us how in these two little verses. First, it tells you what not to do:

• Do not follow the advice of the world
• Do not hang around with sinners
• Do not join in with mockers

Since it is a proven fact that you become like the company you keep, who you hang around with can be a matter of life and death for you. By keeping company with the wrong crowd, getting involved in their behavior and listening to the advice of those who go against the Word of God, can be extremely dangerous. So then, before you find out what to do to get happy, you need to know what not to do. It may involve leaving those who have negative influences upon your life, which may be hard to begin with, but a decision you will never regret.

Now here is what the Lord tells us on how to get happiness. The Lord tells us to delight ourselves in the Law of the Lord and meditate on it day and night. In other words, let God's Word be your guide in life. Treat it like a treasure map filled with jewels. On that map there are multiple treasures that will keep you going throughout life to give you everything you could ever need or enjoy in life.

Challenge yourself every time you read the Word of God to treat it like God's treasure for you. The Book of Proverbs tells us that God's Word is "like" gold and silver, rubies and pearls. Treat God's nuggets of truth as gemstones God is giving you. Ater all, you are a king's kid and your Father in heaven wants to bless you with everything He has for you. So, delight yourself in the Word of God and meditate on it day and night.
