The Potter and the Clay
God has a perfect plan and purpose for your life. Can you be moldable for God to perfect His best in you?
The Potter and
the Clay
God designed the blueprint of your life long before you were formed in your mother’s womb. He created you with purpose, intention, and love. Everything about you—when you would be born, your gifts, your calling, every part of your journey in life - and even when your life is done on earth—came from the heart of God before time began. He knows every detail of your life. God also gave you a free will - to choose whether you would follow God's blueprint for your life or choose to rebel and do your own will according to your own pleasures or purpose.
When we look at Scripture, we can see that God’s people resist His perfect design for them over and over. As a result, life became fractured. Israel did this in the days of Isaiah and Jeremiah, insisting on their own way instead of God’s. So the Lord sent His prophets to remind them: “You are the clay, and I am the potter.” When the clay resists, it becomes marred. But in the potter’s hands, it could be reshaped again.
Jesus confronted the same hardened attitude in the Pharisees. Though they knew the Scriptures, they refused to let God mold their hearts. Their pride kept them from recognizing the very Messiah they had been waiting for.
A Warning and a Comfort
Anyone who argues with their Creator is in danger of missing God's best for them. God is all‑powerful, all‑knowing, and ever‑present—yet He gives us free will. We can follow our own ideas, or we can trust His perfect blueprint. Sadly, however, when we resist Him, our lives crack. When we surrender, He restores and reshapes us.
King David finally understood this. After failing many times, he cried out: “Search me, O God, and know my heart.” —Psalm 139:23. This humble position is the posture of moldable clay. This is where God wants all of His people to be - Humble, allowing God to reshape us into the person He created us to be.
Yielding to God is not a one‑time moment—it is a daily surrender. Every day we choose to lay down our will and ask Him to shape us into who He created us to be. When we do, our lives take on purpose, direction, and peace.
A Moment of Surrender
Take a quiet moment right now and if you haven't done that already today, ask the Lord to search your heart. Give Him every anxious thought, every stubborn place, every broken piece. Invite Him to reshape you from the inside out. When you do this daily, your life will begin to align with God’s beautiful blueprint that He designed especially for you. Let Him be the potter. Be the willing clay in His hands.
Enjoy your day!
