Psalm 91:3-4
Dear Christian friends,
Psalm 91:3-4 Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.
Yesterday we looked at our secret place in God and how in that secret place we find refuge from the world around us. Our secret place in God is like a fortress - a place of trust where God is taking care of us.
The Psalmist expands our secret place - with it being more than a physical place where we go to be alone with the Lord. Here King David is telling us that we can live in that secret place in God continuously while we place our trust in God that He is taking care of us - delivering us from all danger. God then is like a mother hen hovering over her chicks to protect them from any attacks of the enemy fowler that would come to steal them while under her care. In our case, our enemy is Satan who comes to rob, kill and destroy, but Jesus promised to give us life and give it abundantly.
Under the wings of God is a place of safety while we remain in our secret place of being in God - a place where we choose to live in continuously. God's wingspan of feathers covers us and there under His wings we take refuge from Satan and any attack he would attempt to put on us. As God protects us under His wings of security, we discover that the truths of God's Word surround us like a large shield that wards off the fiery darts of Satan and a smaller one (buckler) that catches those sneeky attacks that he tries to accomplish in our lives. Just as Ephesians 6:16 tells us that we must take the shield of faith to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. Being under the wings of God then is like putting on the armor of God for protection from Satan as listed in Ephesians 6:10-18. It isn't something we put on in the morning and take off at night. That armor is God's protection from Satan's attack over us and is something we need to wear continuously.
I said in yesterday's Daily Devotions that my husband and I always pray the 91st Psalm over us and our family every night. We always close by making sure our armor is in place as well by living it during the day and speaking it over our lives before we go to sleep.
- We continue to gird our loins with truth
- We continue to put on the breastplate of righteousness
- We continue to shod our feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace
- We continue to take the shield of faith which quenches all the fiery darts of the wicked one
- We continue to take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God
God has given us the 91st Psalm and the Armor of God in Ephesians 6 as a reminder that God is our protector, but we must also do our part by remaining under His protection - in our secret place under His armor. His armor is our faith in His Word as God takes care of us. In that we can trust.
Have a blessed day in the Lord!
